The regulator placed the 17 water companies of England and Wales into three categories \u2013 \u201cleading\u201d, \u201caverage\u201d and \u201clagging behind\u201d. No companies were found to be \u201cleading\u201d. Three \u2013 Anglian Water, D\u0175r Cymru and Southern Water \u2013 were found to be lagging behind.<\/p>\n
Thames Water, which is facing a potential collapse after building up \u00a315bn of debts, was one of four companies to move from \u201clagging behind\u201d to \u201caverage\u201d. However, Ofwat said \u201cWe have serious concerns about Thames Water\u2019s performance despite this single-year improvement in position.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thames and Southern were the worst performers for the fourth year in a row on customer satisfaction.<\/p>\n
Black said there were signs that some companies were beginning to change their culture. He pointed to Severn Trent taking action to cut sewage overflows with 617 improvements at 467 sites. \u201cWe need to see more firms showing the same sense of urgency and action,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
